Proteges & Mentors wanted!

The WISE Institute houses Penn State’s membership to MentorNet – an award-winning, e-mentoring, national network for students, postdocs, and early career faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematical fields, particularly but not exclusively for women and others underrepresented in these fields. The MentorNet community also offers other opportunities such as e-forums, resources relevant to women and diversity in science and engineering, and a resume database.

MentorNet for students, postdoc and early career faculty
As a Penn State undergraduate or graduate student, post-doc, or early career faculty, you have the opportunity to be matched as a protégé with a professional in your field in a free e-mentoring program. Protégés are matched in one-on-one e-mentoring relationships with mentors who have work experience, and MentorNet provides the training, coaching and support for you to pursue an 8-month mentoring relationship.

MentorNet for Faculty and Professionals
Any male or female with a degree or professional background in engineering, science, technology, or math is encouraged to become a mentor with MentorNet. Mentors should be willing to mentor, via email, a university or community college undergraduate, graduate student, postdoc, or untenured faculty member (You may state your preferences for specific levels in your profile.) and be willing to exchange email messages regularly with a protégé over an 8-month period. The average time spent is 20minutes per week!
