The Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) is a national association with a local chapter here at Penn State.

What is GWIS?
Originally started as a fraternal organization (Sigma Delta Epsilon) GWIS is the oldest women’s organization at Penn State today! This interdisciplinary society of scientists has an active chapter right here at Penn State - The Nu Chapter of GWIS is dedicated to all of the goals set forth by GWIS national.

Who can join GWIS?
The local chapter here at Penn State is primarily made up of women graduate students, post-docs, and faculty who are involved in technology, engineering, mathematics, and the physical,natural and social sciences. However, anyone who holds a baccalaureate or higher degree and is/has been engaged/registered for post-baccalaurete research in any discipline in which the scientific method is used would be welcome. Penn State’s GWIS Annual Events:
The Penn State Chapter of GWIS along with the WISE Institute is responsible for organizing the annual Voices conference and Green Ribbon Week held each spring. Besides networking opportunities, the local chapter of GWIS is also very active in K-12 outreach events.

Advisors/Sponsors:
Currently the WISE Institute is the primary advisor and sponsor for the GWIS local chapter. We would welcome any faculty or staff who would be interested in advising or co-advising this graduate student group.
