Graduate Students
Outreach Opportunities

The WISE Institute offers many outreach development opportunities to female graduate students including:

  • Develop & lead outreach activities
    • Expanding Your Horizons™ - for young girls in grades 7th and 8
      • Volunteer to conduct, 50-minute hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering, or math fields
      • Approximately 8-12 students in each session
      • Proposals accepted in late summer and early Fall of each year.
    • WISE Camps
      • Workshops
        • 90-minute hands-on, presented twice
        • Two morning sessions
        • 12-18 participants in each session
        • Proposals for workshops and projects accepted in late fall and early spring of each year.
      • Projects
        • 16-hour hands-on
        • 4 hours/day M, T, W, R, student presentations on F
        • 8-9 participants in each project
      • Proposals for workshops and projects accepted in late fall and early spring of each year.
  • Volunteer & paid opportunities
    • Expanding Your Horizons™ Volunteer:
      • Call for Volunteers occurs in Fall each year
      • Volunteers may assist before and/or during the event with:
        • Event organization, registration, evaluations etc.
        • Act as role models to participants in grades 7 and 8
        • Guide participants to and sit in on workshops on campus
    • WISE Camps - become a program or resident assistant
      • Program Assistant
        • Assist the workshop and project leaders with facilitating and teaching the hands-on activities
        • Excellent opportunity for students who are interested in learning more about various STEM disciplines
        • Responsible for a small group of high school students throughout the day
        • Receive stipends of $300/week (daily lunch included)
      • Resident Assistant
        • Responsible for arranging and supervising activities for our resident campers, outside of summer camp classes.
        • Supervise campers through the night in the residence halls to the following morning
        • Dinner and breakfast are eaten with the campers
        • Receive a stipend of $300/week (meals and lodging while with campers included)
  • Leadership opportunities in student groups and conferences
