A Guide to Penn State Admissions

Only Minimum Requirements are Listed Academic colleges/departments often impose much stricter criteria!!

I. UNDERGRADUATE CRITERIA

A. Freshman Admission
  1. Documentation Required
    1. Regular application - Use the On-line application for summer or fall of the current year.
    2. Official high school transcripts/GED scores
    3. Official SAT/ACT scores
      • If you have been out of high school for 5 years or if you have been in the service for 4 years, SAT/ACT's may be waived due to adult status obtained.
    4. Official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges (if applicable)
    5. College course schedule if currently enrolled
    6. Application fee ($50.00)

  2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
    1. Less than 18 attempted credits from a regionally accredited institution
    2. High school GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
    3. Completion of high school classes for the requested college
    4. Standardized test results (SAT/ACT - may be waived if adult criteria is met)
    5. Collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

  3. Application Submission
          • Undergraduate Admissions Office at University Park.
B. Advanced Standing (Transfer) Admission
  1. Documentation Required
    1. Regular application - Use the current On-line application for summer or fall.
    2. Official high school transcripts/GED scores
    3. Official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges (if applicable)
    4. College course schedule if currently enrolled Application fee ($50.00)

  2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
    1. 18 or more attempted credits from a regionally accredited institution
    2. Collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale). GPA may vary depending upon program location.
    3. Good academic standing at institution(s) previously attended
    4. Completion of classes required for requested colleges/majors

  3. Application Submission
    1. For Penn State locations except Penn State Harrisburg: Undergraduate Admissions Office at the University Park Campus
    2. For Penn State Harrisburg: Undergraduate Admissions Office at Penn State Harrisburg
C. Provisional Enrollment
  1. Documentation Required
    1. Provisional application
    2. Proof of high school completion/GED
    3. Official college transcripts from all previously attended colleges (if applicable)
    4. College course schedule if currently enrolled

  2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
    1. Space availability

  3. Application Submission
    1. Application materials should be submitted to the Admissions Office of the campus where enrollment is planned.
D. Re-Enrollment
  1. Documentation Required
    1. Re-enrollment request
    2. Official college transcripts from all institutions attended subsequent to PSU enrollment
    3. Any registration holds must be released from student's record
    4. Fee ($20.00)

  2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements (GPA requirements may vary depending on program)
    1. Collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
    2. Approval from the requested college if the previous PSU GPA was less than 2.0, but not low enough to result in a poor scholarship drop
    3. Previous enrollment at PSU as a degree student (previous provisional and nondegree students must apply with a regular or provisional application)

  3. Application Submission
    1. A student must re-enroll at the Registrar's Office campus of most recent enrollment.

  4. Re-enrollment with Academic Renewal (see Policies and Rule, section 58-00)
    1. A student previously dropped for poor scholarship at PSU must apply for reinstatement, as well as re-enrollment (see Policies and Rules, sections 54-80 and 54-82)
E. NonDegree Enrollment
  1. Documentation Required
    1. Nondegree application
    2. Proof of high school completion/GED

  2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
    1. Space availability
    2. If previously dropped for poor scholarship, see Policies and Rules, sections 14-00 and 14-10

  3. Application Submission
    1. Application materials should be submitted to the Registrar's Office at the campus where enrollment is planned.
