How do Students Enroll in Talent Search?

How to Apply?
The Talent Search Director, Assistant Director and respective Education Specialist from each target school review the applications and select the participants. They perform an initial screening of applications by checking for information on family income, parents' educational level, and the academic background of the applicant. They then obtain and review completed Teacher/Counselor Recommendation forms, Parent Attitude forms, the applicant's self-reported need for services on his or her application, and the Education Specialist's notes from the initial meeting with the applicant. Final selection of new participants is made by the Director, Assistant Director and staff member based at the target school and is based on the applicant's need for program services and potential for postsecondary education. Letters are sent to applicants indicating acceptance and a waiting list is maintained if the number of qualifying students exceeds space limitations of the program.
All program participants are treated equally in all phases of the program from selection through delivery of services to the final attainment of educational goals in accordance with university, state and federal law. Priority is given to those applicants who meet both low-income and first-generation criteria as outlined in the federal guidelines and who show strong potential for completion of secondary and postsecondary education when the number of applicants exceeds available openings. Applicants must provide Talent Search staff with the correct documentation of eligibility outlined in the guidelines. All other students are considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
