What Do Colleges Look For?
Large public universities, private colleges, community colleges, and technical/trade schools may emphasize different criteria when making their admission decisions. Although the basis for selection may vary somewhat from school to school, admission decisions are generally made from the following information:

- Class Rank
- Test Scores (SAT, ACT)
- Recommendations
- Interviews
- Essays
- Extra-Curricular Activities
- Community Service
- Special Skills or Talents
Academic Course Requirements
College prep, honors, and advanced placement courses will help prepare a student for college. In general, a student will need:
- 4 years of English
- 3-4 years of Math (at least Algebra I, II, and Geometry)
- 3 years of Science (at least 2 lab courses)
- 2-3 years of History
- 2-3 years of Foreign Language
Course requirements will vary depending on the school applied to and chosen major.
