Application Information

The Pennsylvania College Advising Corps—Penn State recruits and trains recent college graduates to work for one year as full-time advisers. The adviser provides support for high school students in low-income neighborhoods by helping them enroll in postsecondary institutions that fit their individual academic profiles, career goals, and personal circumstances.

During the school year, advisers spend thirty-five hours a week working alongside guidance counselors and in some cases in coordination with other access programs to motivate and assist high school students through the college application process. Advisers will also serve as mentors and create educational opportunities for high school students.

  • Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduating fourth-year student at Penn State. The applicant must submit two letters of reference. The applicant must be able to pass both the Pennsylvania Child Abuse and FBI criminal history clearance.

  • Term: The adviser will serve for one school year, with the option of renewing for a second year. If selected, the adviser will participate in a six-week paid summer training program before employment begins.

  • Support: The adviser will receive a compensation package totaling $26,500 for service that includes $10,000 service stipend, a $10,000 housing allowance, a $1,500 medical allowance and $5,000 toward future education or pay for existing educational debts.
