Tutoring Resources
Tutoring @ University Learning Centers
The University Learning Centers (ULC) operates at many sites around the University Park campus. Several tutoring centers are located on the second floor of Boucke Building, with additional tutoring offered in the evenings in the East Halls Complex, in Pollock Library, and in Sparks Building. Please visit the ULC Web site for more information about math tutors, writing tutors, small-group discussion leaders, foreign language tutors, learning skills consultants, and computer and technology consultants. The ULC offers the following types of assistance:
- The Technology Center
7 Sparks Building, is a drop-in facility designed to assist with technology-based assignments and projects. Phone: 865-1841. - The Language Center
7 Sparks Building, offers drop-in peer tutoring in the evenings in French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, and German are by appointment only. Phone: 865-1841. - The Math Center
220 Boucke Building and 206 Johnston Commons, provides drop-in tutoring for MATH 002 through MATH 200. Copies of old exams and review sheets for future exams are also available. Phone: (814) 865-1841. - The Supplemental Instrucion Program (SI)
helps students review course content and develop better study habits for ACCTG 211, BMB 211, CHEM 12 and 13, ECON 2 and 4, Math 110 and 200, PHYS 211, and STAT 200. For specific information about times and places, stop by 7 Sparks Building or call (814) 865-1841. - The Tutoring Center
206 Johnston Commons, offers individual tutors in a variety of first-and second-year general education courses. Phone: 865-1841. - The Center for Excellence in Writing (CEW) Undergraduate Writing Center
210 Boucke Building and 206 Johnston Commons, offers a free drop-in service for help with a variety of writing tasks. Phone: (814) 865-1841. - The Learning Skills Center
206 Johnston Commons, 220 Boucke, offers one-on-one consulting for taking better notes, preparing for exams, time management, and preparing research papers. Hours: By appointment only. - The Teamwork Center
220 Boucke Building, provides five teamwork areas for students to work together on collaborative assignments. Call (814) 865-1841 to reserve a teamwork area.
Tutoring @ Academic Excellence Center
Help in Math, Science, and Engineering courses is offered by the Academic Excellence Center (AEC) located in 323 Sackett Building. The AEC hours are Sunday through Thursday from 5 pm to 11 pm. Call 863-1990 for more information or list of courses tutored.
Tutoring @ Penn State Math Club
The Penn State Math Club offers free tutoring (Mondays, 7-8pm) to students after weekly meetings (Mondays, 6-7pm) in the McAllister Building for Math 200 - 311, dependent on tutor availability. If you need help with a class at a higher level, we may be able to help you. Please note: the doors to McAllister lock at 7pm, so you should plan to be a few minutes early to tutoring to get into the building. For free tutoring in Math 200 and below, you may want to visit the ULC Math Center (listed above).
