C. Assorted Scholarships at Penn State
- Office of International Education Programs and Studies (IEPS)
- IEPS offers the Judy Shepherd Education Abroad Award for students of color with demonstrated financial need who wish to study abroad on a Penn State program. Application deadline is typically April 1 for summer or fall semesters.
- Forum on Black Affairs (FOBA)
- Each year, FOBA awards the Fannie Lou Hamer/W.E.B. DuBois Service Scholarship to two full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students at Penn State who have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Scholarship deadlines are typically in early December, and both scholarships involve writing a short essay.
- University Fellowships Office
- Offers assistance with applying to nationally competitive scholarships targeting students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, who are involved in campus life (i.e., student organizations, community service, etc.) and/or who have interests in going abroad for graduate education.
- Site also offers search engine for all many types of scholarships.
- College of Education
- Annually awards the Peyton Scholarship, which targets outstanding African American students in Elementary Kindergarten Education (EK ED) who are interested in teaching in an urban setting. Students should check with the Office of Certification and Education Services in 228 Chambers Building, (814) 865-0488, for more information.
- Puerto Rican Student Assocation (PRSA)
- Hispanic/Latino students who are members of the Puerto Rican Student Association (PRSA) are invited to apply for the Ramón Torres Scholarship Fund. Scholarship information & application can be obtained from PRSA.
- Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
- Offers an annual scholarship to students of African or Latino descent who are in first-year, sophomore, or junior class standing. Applications for the scholarship are typically available at one or more of the following offices: the NPHC office at 203 B HUB-Robeson Center, the Paul Robeson Cultural Center or the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority suite at 108S Hibbs Hall.
