Counselor

Moran He joined the MRC counseling team in the fall of 2005. Previously an Associate Lecturer at Wuhan University in China, Moran has a great interest in students' college experiences and in their intellectual and personal development. Moran has recently completed her M.Ed. degree in College Student Affairs at Penn State. Her educational journeys in China, England, and the U.S., has enriched her understanding of global culture and nourished her commitment to educational equity for people of diverse backgrounds.
“My purpose is to serve college students in the realm of academic advising and counseling, with a resolve to live my values of integrity and equality. I define success as every time I see the smile of relief, confidence, celebration, and appreciation on a student’s face. I want to ensure my students that every word you say, no matter how important or trivial it may seem, will not be disregarded.”
"Three generations of my family are teachers and educators— I guess that's why I am always with students. But what really made me want to be part of the MRC staff is that the office provides services for multicultural students that I know are important as I benefited from similar assistance in my own college experience. I know firsthand the difficulties of being a college student from an underrepresented group—I am a member of several such groups: woman, non-native speaker, and Asian, to name a few. As a college student and young adult, I was searching for meaning, a sense of belonging, integrity and success. And what I needed most then was to be heard, to feel connected, to know the resources and opportunities to achieve, and to have someplace I could go to when I felt overwhelmed. I think the MRC is that place for our students.”
“Being a Christian, I am committed to honoring God in what I do, say, and think. I delight in spending time with people I care about, including my family—not for work, appreciation, recognition, comparison, or reputation—but simply for being together. I also enjoy reading, movies, and adventures. My husband is a Penn Stater, too, and we both are good at cooking Chinese cuisine."
