Calendar of Events

February, 1998
A Framework to Foster Diversity at Penn State: 1998-2003
was launched. Strategic planning units (academic colleges, academic support units, and University Libraries) were asked to include their plans for implementing the Framework within their general strategic plans. Brief comment on Framework plans was given as part of the University Planning Council’s (UPC) feedback to units on their general strategic plan.

June 10, 1999
Strategic planning unit budget executives (deans and heads of academic support units) received a letter from Provost Erickson stating the guidelines for the 2000/2001-2001/2002 strategic planning updates including, “a response to any feedback you received from UPC about your implementation plan for A Framework to Foster Diversity.”

May 8, 2001
Budget executives received a letter from Provost Erickson that included a charge to “assess our progress in implementing A Framework to Foster Diversity.” The information included specific questions designed to assess progress on the seven Challenges presented in the Framework and indicated that the update reports were due by December 14, 2001.

June 15, 2001
Budget executives received a letter from Vice Provost Jones that provided each unit with a profile of their demographic data from 1997 and 2000.

September 2001
College deans received a letter from Vice Provost Jones’ office that provided graduation data by gender and racial/ethnic category for spring 1998 and spring 2001.

December 14, 2001
Update reports were submitted by strategic planning units.

January 9, 2002
Review Teams were established and charged.

January - March 2002
Review Teams met and evaluated reports. Feedback reports were forwarded to Vice Provost Jones and Provost Erickson.

March-April 2002
Provost Erickson and Vice Provost Jones met with each budget executive to discuss their respective feedback report. Budget executives provided their responses to the feedback report and their revised update to Vice Provost Jones’ office within two weeks of the meeting.

May 2002
The following information for each strategic planning unit was posted on the Educational Equity Web site:

    Final versions of update reports as submitted by each strategic planning unit
    Units were given the opportunity to revise their update report based on their Review Team feedback report. Reports are presented on the Web site without appendices. If there are appendices in a given report, a table of appendices is included. Please contact the appropriate unit for the full text of the appendices. In some cases, units chose not to revise their original report in lieu of responses provided in their feedback report (see paragraph below).

June 23, 2003
Budget executives received a letter from Vice Provost Jones that provided each unit with a profile of their demographic data from 1997, 2000, and 2002.

September 2003
A preliminary copy of A Framework to Foster Diversity at Penn State: 2004-09 was presented to the President’s Council and Academic Leadership Council. Budget executives were informed that unit 2004-09 diversity strategic plans were due by February 16, 2004.

October 13, 2003
College deans received a letter from Vice Provost Jones’ office that provided graduation data by gender and racial/ethnic category for spring 1998, spring 2001, and spring 2003.

October 10, 2003
Budget executives received a letter from Provost Erickson that included a charge to “undertake a final assessment of our implementation of A Framework to Foster Diversity at Penn State: 1998-2003.” The information included specific questions designed to assess progress on the seven Challenges presented in the Framework. The letter indicated that the final reports on the implementation of the 1998-2003 Framework and the new 2004-09 diversity strategic plans based on the 2004-09 Framework were due by February 16, 2004.

December 2003
A Framework to Foster Diversity at Penn State: 2004-09 was distributed to strategic planning units, posted to the Educational Equity Web site, and announced to the University community.

January-March 2004
Review Teams were established and Team chairs met with Vice Provost Jones.

February 16, 2004
Final 1998-2003 Framework reports and 2004-09 diversity strategic plans based on the 2004-09 Framework were submitted by strategic planning units.

March-May 2004
Review Teams were charged and met to evaluate 1998-2003 final reports and 2004-09 plans. Feedback reports were forwarded to Vice Provost Jones and Provost Erickson.

June-August 2004
Provost Erickson and Vice Provost Jones met with each budget executive to discuss their respective feedback reports on the 1998-2003 final report and the 2004-09 plan. Budget executives provided their responses to the feedback reports and revised 2004-09 diversity strategic plans to Vice Provost Jones’ office within one month of their meeting.

September 2004
